Dressing to Look Lean
By Robert Pagliarini C.P.T.

When I was growing up, my mom picked out the clothes I would wear to school every morning. I really didn't have a choice. "You will wear this with that . . .." I didn't have a choice, unless it was a Friday! I couldn't wait for Friday to come--for many obvious reasons, but one big one was that I could wear anything I wanted! I walked into school like I owned the place. I felt confident and powerful.
There is a certain energy or power clothes can have over us that I'm sure we've all felt before. Not only do the clothes we wear affect our mental state, but the clothes others wear affect our perception of them. Two questions then . . . how do we want to feel and what do we want others to think about us?
If you are reading this, you are probably into exercising or are thinking about starting to right? You probably want to feel better about your physique. You want to be more confident and poised. You want to be powerful and respected. How can we help achieve these things through what we wear? Here are a few tips:
Don't throw out all of your yellow and pink lycra just yet. Keep that checkered tie in the closet. If you continue to workout intelligently and eat properly, you will soon find that you want to attract all the attention to your body as possible. Heck, you might even start an organization to replace "Casual Friday" with "Bathing Suit Friday!" Go to www.latrainer.com now!!!

How Tight Should I Go?
If you are a tad overweight . . . or if you are very overweight, do not buy clothes in the size you want to be or should be! Buy the size you are. If you buy small, you are accentuating your body's curves and bulges. If you want to look thinner, buy your size or a size larger. When being Bright isn't Encouraged!
Pop quiz for you . . . what color do people in the army wear to blend in? Yup . . . camouflage. Why don't they wear fluorescent pink? Although it might look cool, it wouldn't be very practical for trying to blend in. Keep this in mind when you are shopping. If you are overweight, avoid bright colors. It's that simple. Go for black, brown, or darker blues. Attract people with your personality, not your orange jumpsuit!Thin is In!
Another pop quiz for you . . . I've got a 10 pound weight and a 25 pound weight. Which one looks bigger? Yup, the 25 pound weight. Ok, what weighs more, a ton of feathers or a ton of copper? They are they same, they both weigh a ton! What is my point? The type of fabric you wear can make you look heavier than you are. Thick fabrics like tweed or corduroys are going to make you look "thicker." Instead, go for thinner fabrics. An "X" Marks the Spot!
In this case, an arrow. I'm talking about men's ties. They are the most versatile piece of clothing. You can have three suits and fifteen ties and nobody will notice that you keep wearing the same three suits over and over again. They are also the best article of clothing for showing our individuality. They also look like a big arrow that points to your belly. If you don't want to attract attention to your mid-section, make your tie a subtle accessory. Avoid crazy colors and designs.Don't throw out all of your yellow and pink lycra just yet.
